Christchurch City Three Year Plan 2013-16. ‘We Have Listened’, Christchurch City Council, 2013.
Following on from the Share an Idea campaign, in which submissions had been analysed by contractors using qualitative analysis software, it was hoped to store and analyse all submissions in a single place, able to be queried by topic.
The custodians of the submissions database would not allow changes that would enable the content of the submissions to be recorded in the database. I developed a data warehouse approach that would pull together the submitters’ registrations and the content of their submissions, in a form able to be analysed by qualitative software. A prototype module enabled automated coding with fewer (but different) errors than manual coding.
Built: MS Access forms & reports, SQL Server backend database. Developed tables to store the content of submissions, procedures to load data from web forms, data entry forms to enter handwritten submissions, reports with graphs and word clouds, and views for NVIVO to access.
